She studied fine art and marketing at Concordia University in California USA graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree. Khumalo then returned to South Africa to join Themba Trust where she is a matron and a fine art teacher.
Khumalo’s work is inspired by life, in all its colours. This is evident through the emotion and symbolism captured in her art work. She celebrates life by focusing on women: their beauty, the vulnerability, their strength and their flaws. The women in her work embody all Khumalo is.
While Khumalo echoes what she observes around her, she mirrors her own soul as she depicts her own joys and fears. Khumalo is inspired by head wraps, bright colours and natural hair. These constantly recur all through her work as a hand print of her own soul.
